Acting Officers Sunday Lunch
Wyrebank, The Moorings, Garstang
12th May 2024. 1pm

Well the Sun was shining, yes it was actually shining when I set off for what is always a very pleasant afternoon at Wyrebank on the Moorings at Garstang for the Traditional Sunday Lunch which is organised by the outgoing Provincial Wardens, it is always well attended and a happy but also sad occasion for the Acting officers as their year travelling around the Province as members of the Team is almost over. It was really nice to see everyone’s wives and partners who really brightened up the occasion, and to see them happily chatting together.

Now then how could I forget to mention the trip to Garstang, well to be honest there wasn’t much to report, straight up the on ramp to the M60, traffic kept moving slowly to the M61 and then the pace picked up and joined the M6 all the way to Junction 32 and down on to the A6 which is a great road all the way to the Wyrebank, except for the changing speed limits every mile or two, not even any Pot Holes to speak of, how life and driving was so very different all those years ago, Ford Anglia’s and Consuls, Standard Vanguards, A35’s, Hillman Minx’s etc, even some of Arthurs Jaguars were around, mind you some of those cars would be pushed to even each 70 MPH.
The Sun did its best to stay out between the light clouds which makes the surroundings look even better, with the shimmering water and canal boats all moored up, some made the most of the good weather sitting outside with a nice drink or two until it was time to take up their seats for the meal which was excellent. Only a short speech from our PGM Keith to thank everyone for attending and the commitment shown by the acting officers of the year to attend many of the Team visits, he also gave his appreciation to all the Ladies who have supported them, he then had a surprise and had much pleasure in presenting Arthur with a model of his vintage Jaguar that none of us have ever seen. (Is it real or just a ghost). Before closing the Provincial Wardens of the year Mark and Andy were happy to present each of the Ladies with a lovely manicure set which were all well received.
Everyone then said their goodbyes having enjoyed a very relaxed and pleasant afternoon in good company at WyreBank for the Acting Officers Sunday Lunch, now then as to the trip home that’s another story, my pet subject both motorways in two areas were backed up for miles, we didn’t let it bother us, how can it now, were used to it, hope everybody had a safe trip home.  Mark Well.
