Celebration at Jubilee

I arrived at Ulverston Masonic Hall for the business meeting of Jubilee Mark Lodge No. 375 to discover W. Bro. Les Preston present. It was a very pleasant surprise as Les had not felt up to attending for some time. It was then I was informed that in August Les had reached the milestone of being 100 years of age.
Alan Jones, les Preston and Chris Gray
Alan Jones had collected Les for the meeting and following the listed business gave a short address to Les. This was followed by loud applause and a spontaneous rendition of happy birthday. It was very much a low key affair at the request of Les who wanted no great fuss which was the reason why it had not been widely publicised.
Chris Gray and Steve Ellershaw
The meeting witnessed W.M. Chris Gray declare Steve Ellershaw as Master Elect.
Following the meeting it was time to go from labour to refreshment and catch up with friends following the summer break.
Stuart Brackstone proposed a toast to Les who replied in fine style. He took the opportunity to ask everyone to help him celebrate 50 years as a Mark Master Mason in 2025.
I am able to report that, although his sight has declined considerably and he is not as agile as once he was, Les’s brain seems as sharp as ever and his voice as strong as it has always been. It was a pleasure to be in his company on what was an evening which will long be remembered by all who were present.
