Jubilee Advancement

The latest recruit to the ranks of Jubilee Mark Lodge No 375 is Derek Pallister. He had been proposed for membership by lodge secretary Brian Benn and seconded by treasurer Peter Quirk.

WM Steve Ellershaw conducted the initial part of the ceremony at Ulverston Masonic Hall before handing over the reins to lodge stalwart Alan Jones to complete the advancement. They both performed to a high, and enjoyable, standard.

It is not unusual, on occasions, to see visitors pressed into service when lodge officers are not present. This proved to be the case on the evening with some regular attenders missing due to medical reasons and family commitments. There was no need to send out a press gang because immediately offering his services as Master Overseer was Paul Dixon. Paul is a member of Duddon Mark Lodge in the Province of Cumberland and Westmorland and holds the high rank of P.G.J.O. It was a great example of the camaraderie associated with this friendly degree that such a high-ranking officer should not feel it beneath his dignity to play a part in the proceedings. I have to observe that he did pass his audition and may receive further bookings so well was he received! The Special Representative of the PGM was ejected and acted as Tyler.

Senior Warden Reg Wilkinson delighted the workers when he presented them with their wages in the form of Werther’s Originals.
Visitors-  Paul Dixon, John Greenhlagh (both Duddon Mark)
Alan Gregory and Ken Needham (both Morecambe Mark)
Derek is originally from Plymouth and served 21 years in the Royal Navy Submarine Service. At the latter end of his career he came to Barrow in Furness for the preparatory work prior to the hand-over of a nuclear submarine. He then remained in the town as he found that upon his leaving the service his skill base led to an offer to work on the construction of submarines.

Next up at Jubilee Mark Lodge is another advancement.
