Jubilee Mark Installation |
|
The most famous son of the market town of Ulverston is Arthur Stanley Jefferson more popularly known by his stage name of Stan Laurel as part of the Laurel and Hardy duo. I can safely report that there was nothing slapstick about the installation meeting of Jubilee Mark Lodge No 375 at Ulverston Masonic Hall.
Steve Ellershaw, David Atkinson and Chris Gray |

The principal guest, representing PGM Keith Beardmore, at the meeting was Provincial Senior Grand Warden David Atkinson.

He was able to witness Chris Gray install Steve Ellershaw as his successor in fine style during what was a delightful ceremony. The floor work during the inner workings being a highlight of the proceedings.
Harry Kilgour, Alan Jones, Russ Greenhow, Brain Benn and D.C. David E. Smith |

Amongst those observing events were two master’s in office in the persons of Dennis Laird of The Furness Mark Lodge No 36 and Chris Smith of Duddon Mark Lodge based at Millom in the Province of Cumberland and Westmorland.

Others too played their part in providing a display of excellent ritual. The working tools were presented and explained by lodge secretary Brian Benn. Lodge stalwart Alan Jones delivered the address to the newly installed Worshipful Master whilst Harry Kilgour addressed the wardens and Russ Greenhow was called upon to instruct the Overseers as to their duties. David orated the address to the Brethren in an excellent manner. All added to the enjoyment of the evening. I chipped in with the presentation of the keystone jewel.

A cheque for £375 in favour of the West Lancashire Mark Charity was presented to David to mark the occasion.
New WM Steve is employed as a paper maker and also owns an alpaca farm. Despite these, and his family commitments, he still makes time in his busy schedule to be a very active mason. Jubilee Mark is in safe hands.
Andrew Whittle, Keith Beaumont and Peter Schofield |
|
There is a busy and fruitful year ahead for Steve with three candidates awaiting advancement.
Following the formal proceedings, it was time to go from labour to refreshment with a meal of roast beef followed by apple crumble and ice cream being appreciatively enjoyed.

The success or otherwise of any masonic meeting can be hard to define but one measure I like to take note of is the atmosphere at the festive board. The happy buzz of conversation between friends interspersed with occasional laughter were sure indications that Jubilee Mark installation meeting was indeed a tremendous success.
