Remembrance Day at Urmston, Trafford
Here we are again, what is usually  a bright sunny day turned out to be dull and overcast for a change, at least it wasn’t raining, a huge crowd gathered in the centre of Urmston before setting off on the long walk to the Cenotaph, there was a brief stop as always on the way at Golden Park where the Dignitaries leading the Parade lay a wreath at another small memorial, the massed bands then strike up and off we go on the long walk. (well it seems a long walk to me nowadays}
The two thousand plus who attend every year did a full circle of the roundabout before settling down for the proceedings, Deputy Mayor Karina Carter, Insp Dytor GMP, Rev’d James Spence and several other Dignitaries lined up and all was set for the service.
A stilled hush came over the area and all that could be heard was the birds singing which seemed quite fitting to me as my own father had told me that following a large barrage of shelling over head there would be a deadly silence and then all that would be heard were the birds singing.
The clock struck eleven, the usual two minutes silence was observed before a lone trumpeter played the Last Post. Rev’d Spence gave some words of hope to all, “Those who wait for the Lord shall renew their strength, they shall mount up with wings like eagles, they shall run and not be weary they shall walk and not be faint. Following several other verses, it was time for the laying of wreaths.
Flixton Shepherd Eastwood Mark laid the first one followed by Royal Protector Craft and Radio Millenium Craft Lodges, these are lodges we have a close relationship  with, we all support each other. I spoke to W.Bro. Tony Johnson who is now 106 years young, he’s an Honorary of both FSE Mark and RPL Craft, its one of the few times he hasn’t made it to the Cenotaph, I wished him well on behalf of us all and thanked him for his service to the country.
Now let the pictures do the talking, I hope everyone had a good Remembrance Day.
