Wigan Church Service

The Annual Church service of the Wigan and District Masonic Group took place at St. Matthews Church,

Highfield, Wigan before a congregation of over 170 and in the presence of Assistant Provincial Grand

Master, Tony Bent and Danny Jones, Assistant to the Provincial Grand Principals.

The Worshipful Mayor of the Borough of Wigan, Councilor Myra Whiteside attended accompanied by

her consort Mr. John Hurst.

The service was conducted by Brother Scott Campbell assisted by Rev W. H. Harrington and the Preacher

was the Provincial Grand Chaplain Graham Halsall. The First Reading from 2 Samuel 24: 18-25 was given by

Assistant Provincial Grand Master, Stanley Oldfield and the Second Reading John 2: 13-22 was given by

Assistant Provincial Grand Master, Ray Martland.

The service was a colourful occasion with numerous Brethren in regalia and the Mark Degree was particularly

well represented by Provincial Grand Master, Peter Connolly, Deputy Provincial Grand Master, Keith

Beardmore and Assistant Grand Master, Ian Nairn and many other Mark Masons.

Refreshments were served afterwards in the adjacent Church Hall.
